Conservation Grazing
Through working on a wide range of beef and sheep farms, managing my own livestock, and seeing many different approaches to land and animal management in my work as a farm vet, I’ve become acutely aware of the impact these choices have on our landscape.
With a deep passion for the Northumbrian pastoral environment and the livestock that can help shape it, I’ve come to see grazing animals as true ecosystem engineers. When managed thoughtfully, cattle and sheep can play a vital role in landscape conservation — improving biodiversity, building soil health, and increasing resilience to a changing climate.
Grazed by the Tyne offers conservation grazing services tailored to the needs of individual sites. By carefully matching livestock type, stocking density, and a carefully considered grazing plan to each landscape, we can work with landowners and conservation bodies to deliver positive outcomes for habitats, wildlife, and long-term land health.
